Almost *all* these complaints are from a few averse to the name of Jesus, but why don’t we drop it?  Gordo, things have been quieting down for the last week or so.    Let the Christians mention their faith without taking offense and we’ll let you tell of your latest hamster exploits Ahhaaahhhhaaaa!   Doug

Response:

Doug: This is not a forum for discussing Christian or any other spiritual beliefs, nor is it a debate game for bored sick people, nor a Hep c information service.  No matter how important your Christianity is to you, it is not a viable topic on this board because it instantly becomes volatile, and you know that.  Displays of emotion and ego are inevitable and the dialogue turns sour.  Not only is the topic not viable, the protracted arguments and deliberate antagonism are plainly destructive to the heart of this group. Interestingly, there is a small splinter group of us now who talk privately via email about art and creativity, because we find it healing. Would I be making a mistake to propose that those of you strongly inclined toward religious discussion contact each other via email so that you can communicate freely without risk of deterring newbies and loyal old timers? kj

WS said: Christianity, any religion, is not a smorgasbord lunch where you just take the things you like. It’s the full meal deal, and it condems anyone who eats at the sushi bar next door. No, Christianity isn’t a pick and choose what you like and disregard the rest. Neither is anything worthwhile. But as for the condemnation remark, that becomes person to person..Not ALL. I have never once since my conversion "condemned" anyone. Thats not for me to do. Ref: "Judge not, lest ye be judged". Some people "think" that is what Christians are doing but it’s not necessarily so. God is my judge. If you came here saying if you don’t worship tree’s you’re going to Hell. I wouldn’t feel condemned. I would just disagree with you. YOU have to receive the condemnation before it has a place. From what I’ve seen here throughout alot of religious debates Is a ton of people with pre-conceived Ideas about how Christians are…and thus we end up being the "judged" and "condemed" ones. But that again, doesn’t bother me a bit. I’m convinced of my beliefs, I’m not telling you to be. You must understand that to be a Christian in the truest sense is to believe we are to help all who are in need. Key on ALL. Muslim, Druid, Hindu, Buddhist..etc…Love knows no boundries. But if you measure every Christian into one lump and say you’re all alike. That is wrong. There is good, bad, and ugly in everything. Why would saying "bless you" mean I’m judging you? Christians say it to each other all the time..Are we judging each other? Don’t think so. We are hoping and praying God’s best for your life. You speak of Believing in the Laws of Christianity. Jesus said He came to do away with the letter of the law. His New Testament is one of Grace…Unmerited favor….We are held to the law of love…

That’s just one example of your baseless, biased, negative judgments about people who don’t share your religious beliefs and who publically say so. You’re a liar. Spare me the christian-as-persecuted-minority bullshit.  While some people here have made generalizations about christians the majority of complaints about you have been based on your words. G

The problem is that religion is such a sensitive issue, and most of us are living so close to the edge, that when someone brings it up, this highly diverse group always erupts and degenerates into volumes of angry garble that continues for days. The topic of hep c gets trampled and important thoughts about it never get written, Newbies that might be helped and important oldies disappear. We all know it isn’t as simple as ignoring posts or using killfiles. Because of the dynamics of the group, these awful  conflagrations appear inevitable.  And ultimately sad.  Is there any solution?  I wonder if we could bring our faith (in healing) but leave religion at the door? kj

There you go again Spider, telling someone to keep religion out of ash-c! I have kept quiet long enough about this bullshit! Your failure to have religion, in no way bothers me.  But when you tell others who have religion, to leave it out for the good of all of us, it sucks. When will you get it? I’ll have no pissing contest with anyone here, I am not trying to change your belief at all, but refrain from trying to suppress anyone from speaking freely at all.  As a newspaper person, I would have thought that you would know the balance and value of free speech. I don’t post that often as I am not always up to posting.  Other times I stopped reading this group because I was so sick and the bullshit tipped the (my) meter. When will *you* get it, Eileen? This is a hep c support group that has members from all over the world, from all walks of life and from a variety of religious backgrounds. Christian references are great for Christians, but too easily alienate those of other religions or no religion. The foundation of Christianity is the belief that the Christian god is the one and only god, and that those who do not believe in him are heathens, sinners, lost souls, whatever (a Christian’s mission is to convert the heathens). So, when someone says, "God bless you, we are praying for you, it’s in God’s hands, yada yada yada," they are telling me that they have judged me because I am not a Christian. Now, if you don’t believe the laws of Christian religion, then you shouldn’t call yourself a Christian. If you believe that your god loves Muslims, Satanists, Buddhists and Wiccans as much as he loves his Christians, then you’re commiting a sin in the eyes of your lord. Christianity, any religion, is not a smorgasbord lunch where you just take the things you like. It’s the full meal deal, and it condems anyone who eats at the sushi bar next door. To take it a stage further, if there were cast iron evidence of the existence god (as in omnipotent being), perhaps there would be no need for faith (this is starting to sound like that Hitchhiker’s Guide logic).  :-) — Paul Use the reply by email facility in your newsreader to send email

Good sentiment, Paul, but I see things a little differently. Bobby, are you reading this? Your situation has nothing to do with God or religion. It’s just a bitch of a place to find yourself after you’ve done nothing wrong in your life… life’s not been kind to you and there ain’t no great reward on the other side of the rainbow. But I think I know you well enough to say that you get pleasure out of many things in life, especially music and people and better yet if the two are combined. That’s your joy. And you’re obviously one tough motherfucker too, and that’s how you handle the pain and the grief and the craziness that is most of the rest of the world. But don’t waste your time looking for strength up in the sky cuz it’s not there. It’s right inside you. You are the source of the strength and the happiness and the joy, not only for yourself but I’ll bet you give a lot of all three to those who you spend time with. That’s what it’s all about, bud, and it’s all in how you look at it. You’re only here once, and you make of it what you make of it. You’re a long time dead. All the best to you, Bobby. Now roll a nice blend and listen to some good tunes (but don’t smoke your bible!). There will be good things in today, but you might miss them if you dwell on things you can’t change. Waterspider

I recall Cody getting more than a few flames about the Daily Messages (I think one even came from me), and in all fairness he didn’t bring up the religious thread. I don’t think that we should have to ignore posts that offend us, any of us, for any reason. The trick is to confine it to the thread and not let the discussion degrade to shit-flinging. <g> WS

No, sorry. I haven’t fooled with a MAC since 1985. Then I went to an IBM 286. I believe, however, that she can save her scans in .jpg format with a MAC. Cody

You don’t know the history. Posting things like "bibilical fact" is almost as ludicrous and insults the intelligence as much as the Intelligent Design/Adam and Eve theory. You really don’t want to get me started on this. As you say, however, you are free to post anything you want — and so am I. Thanks Cody, Hmmm by the way, do you know of any file converter that will convert *.cwk files into *.jpg files? My little sister has a Mac and just sent me some photos of her new house. They came in cwk format. I’ve never heard of that. But, have never even sat down at a Mac. So, I’m clueless. Any help would be appreciated! What doesn’t kill ya makes you stronger. Ain’t preaching at ya brother just stating a biblical fact. All that remains of who we are when we depart this life for the other is our Character. We were told that we were the free world’s first line of defence..and as such you are written off within minutes of engaging the Red Horde when and if they decided to come through EGermany… Well, they decided 7 years into my service that being a hemophiliac wasn’t a good thing for a soldier…so I got the boot…no pension, no pat on the back, nothing. I watch for a bit and made note of how effortlessly they took off in flight. LOL. The Bible has no facts, just lies. And, you just lied, you *are* preaching. There is no evidence that believing in a non existant god like the one the Christian Church uses to control people provides any cure for Hep C so please stop your preaching. Thanks, Cody

Well, yeah. And yet you persist in your attempt – as "the messenger" (as if!) Pat yourself on the back for taking an entire lifetime to realize the obvious, anyway. Sheesh…. /greyhackles (btw, you’ve grown totally boring lately. what’s up?)

Okay, that’s responsive. So who is the human object of that sentence?  IOW whatever that sentence says, whom is it about? So now explain.  How is it that something about his judgment makes you sick? More specifically…what is there in you that would cause you to be sick over his judgments about a god, rather than happy that his life was saved? > Oh, so now you’re a judge?

Why, you know someone that isn’t?  Do tell. But no, that’s not my goal here.  I figure the facts will speak for themselves.  I strongly believe in people making their own judgments. jk

What, you think you’re less religious than anyone else? Whom exactly do you think you’re fooling?  One doesn’t fool names like "Cody" or "Alan;" one fools individuals.  You might fool some of the individuals here, but you surely don’t fool this one. Some hold the individual as THE sacred focus of the good, and some don’t. You, like all serious religionists, clearly fall into the latter class. The only difference is, common religionists are not overwhelmed with the guilt and shame of their own behavior.  That’s because their behavior is basically good, regardless of how unobjectively they may rationalize it. You, OTOH, can’t live comfortably with that.  Your shame of your own behavior is so great that you must invent things about others…to pretend that it’s they who are bad rather than you-know-who…to show how wrong they must be, as if that’ll somehow make you right. Did I mention I’m from Detroit?  We live among punks here and they’re as common as the water.  You’re so busy telling folks how wrong they are with their contradictory gods, that you’ve completely overlooked the sort of thing that’s telling you that.  You treat them as punks even when they aren’t; that’s what makes you a punk. Here, asshole.  A man’s life was saved and he is now alive when it’s virtually certain that he wouldn’t be under any other scenario.  Now you go ahead and explain how the joy and goodness of THAT is somehow overweighed by something else that you think merits the comment, "Barf." And we’ll take a look at it, to see just how religious it is. jk

I’m not trying to fool anyone. > One doesn’t fool names like > "Cody" or "Alan;" one fools individuals.  You might fool some of the > individuals here, but you surely don’t fool this one.

Considering I am not trying to fool anyone … > Some hold the individual as THE sacred focus of the good, and some don’t. > You, like all serious religionists, clearly fall into the latter class.

Not true. The only thing I can change is myself. Trying to change others is futile. > The only difference is, common religionists are not overwhelmed with the > guilt and shame of their own behavior.  That’s because their behavior is > basically good, regardless of how unobjectively they may rationalize it. > You, OTOH, can’t live comfortably with that.  Your shame of your own > behavior is so great that you must invent things about others…to pretend > that it’s they who are bad rather than you-know-who…to show how wrong > they must be, as if that’ll somehow make you right.

Right about what? > Did I mention I’m from Detroit?

[Fragment from the Appendix] [Critique of Plutarch's Polemic against the Theology of Epicurus] [II. Individual Immortality] [1. On Religious Feudalism. The Hell of the Populace] The study is again divided into the relation of the Evil-doers and rascals, then of the of the masses and uncivilised and finally of the Decent and intelligent ones (1. c. 1104) [28] to the doctrine of the continued existence of the soul. Already this division into fixed qualitative distinctions shows how little Plutarch understands Epicurus, who, as a philosopher, investigates the essential relationship of the human soul in general. Then he brings fear up again as the means to reform the evil-doers and thus justifies the terrors of the underworld for the sensuous consciousness. We have already considered this objection of his. Since in fear, and specifically in an inner fear that cannot be extinguished, man is determined as an animal, we do not care at all how an animal is kept in restraint. Now we proceed to the view of the polloi (Multitude), although it turns out at the end that few people are not included in this term; although, to tell the truth, all people I had almost said all men, vow allegiance to this banner. In the masses, who have no fear of what comes after death, the myth-inspired hope of eternal life and the desire of being, the oldest and most powerful of all passions, produces joy and a feeling of happiness and overcomes that childish terror. Hence, whoever has lost children, a wife, and friends would rather have them continue to he somewhere and continue to exist, even if in hardship, than be utterly taken away and destroyed and reduced to nothing. On the other hand, they willingly hear such expressions as "the dying person goes somewhere else and changes his dwelling", and whatever else intimates that death is a change of the soul’s dwelling, and not destruction … and such expressions as "he is lost" and "he has perished" and "he is no more" disturb them…. They hold in store for them utter death who say: "We men are born only once; one cannot be born a second time…… For the present is of little account to them, or rather of none at all, in comparison with eternity, and they let it pass without enjoying it and neglect virtue and action, spiritless and despising themselves as creatures of a day, impermanent, and beings worth nothing to speak of. For the doctrine that "being-without-sensation and being-dissolved and what has no sensation is nothing to us" does not remove the terror of death, but rather confirms it. For this is the very thing nature dreads … the dissolution of the soul into what has neither thought nor sensation; Epicurus, by making this a scattering into emptiness and atoms, does still more destroy our hope of immortality, a hope for which (I would almost say) all men and all women are ready to be torn asunder by Cerberus and to carry constantly [water] into the barrel [of the Danaides], so that they may [only] stay in being and not be extinguished. p. [1104 - ]1105, 1.c There is really no qualitative difference between this and the previous category. What in the first case appeared in the shape of animal fear, appears here in the shape of human fear, the form of sentiment. The content remains the same. We are told that the desire of being is the oldest love; to be sure, the most abstract and hence oldest love is the love of self, the love of one’s particular being. But that was expressing this fact too bluntly, and so it is retracted and an ennobling halo is cast around it by the semblance of sentiment. Thus he who loses wife and children would rather that they were somewhere, even under bad conditions, than that they had totally ceased to exist. If the issue were only love, then the wife and the child of the individual would be preserved in the greatest purity in his heart, a state of being far superior to that of empirical existence. But the facts are otherwise. Wife and child as such are only in empirical existence insofar as the individual to whom they belong exists empirically himself. That the individual therefore prefers to know that they are somewhere in sensuous space, even under bad conditions, rather than nowhere, only means that he wants to preserve the consciousness of his own empirical existence. The mantle of love was only a shadow. The naked empirical Ego, the love of self, the oldest love, is the core and has not rejuvenated itself into a more concrete, more ideal shape. Plutarch believes that the word "change" has a more pleasing sound than "total cessation". But the change is not supposed to be a qualitative one, the individual Ego in its individual being is supposed to persist, the word therefore is only the sensuous image of what the word stands for and has to stand for its opposite. The thing is not supposed to be changed, only placed in a dark spot. The qualitative leap-and every qualitative distinction is a leap, without such leaping no ideality-is then obscured by the interposition of a fantastic distance. Alan, son of Nemesis. *We* in the Church of Nemesis are in complete *solidarity* with our brother Cody the Buddhist at all times, and in fact *We* are in solidarity with all our brothers and sisters of the Buddhist faith, the only religion we have problems with is the church of the jealous god who has brought the earth to the edge of destruction. I was diagnosed in ‘97 with advanced cirhossis, and didn’t even know anything was wrong, but by ‘99 I did as symptoms appeared. I was too advanced for ifn therapy.   I had probably been walking around with it for 30 years. I was able to get a  living donor transplant when my brother-in-law stepped up to the plate. Had transplant in July ‘04.  Hopefully you will never be advanced enough to need a transplant . I also handled everything through prayer. God healed me through a transplant, and gave me the health to last long enough to get the transplant. At the last minute He provided a donor. He doesn’t always do miraculous healings. Wouldn’t you agree that jealousy is so *immature* ? How could any sane person worship a jealous god? Jealousy is a sign of a lack of self-esteem and comes from having an inferiority complex. Now Nemesis is full of self-confidence and values Herself as a true Goddess. She doesn’t demand that anybody worships Her because She knows She is all-powerful. She is a true Goddess, and the time has come for Her to take that silly little boy back to Tartarus where he belongs. And Nemesis just wants people to enjoy life, but unfortunately the followers of the false god took it upon themselves to "save the world" and now it is payback time. Alan, son of Nemesis. 'We are at war … I am a soldier'

Question:

Sicko Muslim fanatics have ZERO thankfulness: It was the Americans who DEFIED the U.N. and save thousands of Muslim lives after the slaughter at Srebenica. It was the Americans who again saved thousands of Muslim lives by entering Kosovo and stopping the slaughter of Muslims. ARE YOU MUSLIM FUCKHEADS SO WARPED THAT YOU HAVE NO SENSE OF REALITY?? Maybe the Yanks should have let your Muslim "brothers" be slaughtered. Islam is a sick, sick ideology. The Reality YOU have is CORRECT–the U.S., and ALL WESTERN NATIONS are a threat to Islamic fundamentalists.  And in your religious delusions, you really think that it would be one happy world some day when everyone is under the thumb of some dumb-ass Mullah.  I guess the Muslim religious thugs known as the Taliban were your ideal….destroying Buddhist statues, making Muslim women cower in fear or worse (not allowed to work). Islam will be obliterated to smithereens by western societies before Islamo-fascism is allowed to take hold.  Muslims do NOT understand the strength of separation of Church and State…or religious tolerance of other peoples.  Just try bringing some bibles into Saudi Arabia now, buster….

I’m not lonely at all. I am very happy with my life, something you know *nothing* about. >  Anyone who spends as much time > as he does spouting anti everything bs in a support group > must not have a lot going on in their lives.

I am anti war. I am anti killing I am anti militaries. I am anti multinational corporations that rape the land. I am anti religious leaders that mislead people into thinking some god can save them. I am for peace. I am for life. I am for search and rescue. Am for small businesses. OT (News): Jim Carrey Talks About Prozac

Question:

JIM CARREY TELLS ‘60 MINUTES’: MORE GOD, LESS PROZAC Jim Carrey says the anti-depressant Prozac that he took may have helped him at one time, but he’s better off without it now. In fact, says the actor, a no-drugs-or-alcohol policy and a spiritual life are the things that make him feel good. Carrey speaks frankly in a rare one-on-one interview with Steve Kroft to be broadcast on 60 MINUTES Sunday, Nov. 21 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. "I was on Prozac for a long time," he tells Kroft. "It may have helped me out of a jam for a little bit, but people stay on it forever." Then he describes being on the medication as not taking away the illness’s peaks and valleys, only softening them. "There are peaks, there are valleys, but they’re all kind of carved and smoothed out…It feels like a low level of despair you live in where you’re not getting any answers but you’re living okay and you can smile at the office," he says. "You know, I had to get off at a certain point because I realized that …everything is okay." Carrey takes nothing now. "I rarely drink coffee. I am very serious about no alcohol, no drugs," he says, "Life is too beautiful." During the interview at his home, he invited 60 MINUTES cameras to one of his most beautiful and private spots, his "center of the universe," where he goes to escape the world and where he tells Kroft his feelings about God. "This is where I hang out with Buddha, Krishna…all those guys," says Carrey about a lean-to adorned with candles and a bed built high on his hillside property in Brentwood, Calif. "I’m a Buddhist, I’m a Muslim, I’m a Christian. I’m whatever you want me to be…it all comes down to the same thing," he tells Kroft. Carrey says he believes they are all the same God and it is this conviction and spirituality that make him happy. — The charter is available at:

Been there, done that. — Chinese accordions suck.

I’ve lived a pretty good life. I’ll go to heaven, if there is one, won’t I? No. On Judgment Day, the prophets Mohammed (pbuh) and Jesus (pbuh) will weep as Allah casts you into Hell for your blasphemous worship of His prophet Jesus (pbuh) as divine.

Perhaps it is time for you and your new Muslim friend to both show some of the kindness and consideration your beliefs purport to have by removing the non-belief system newsgroups from your posts. To paraphrase Pastor Frank, please stop posting your ridiculous beliefs to our pristine atheist and buddhist newsgroups. Thanking you in advance for your kind consideration….. :)

This mistaken belied derrives from people who think that in Christianity heaven is a reward.  It isn’t, it is an exclusive members club and only people who join while alive are allowed in.  People wouldn’t walk down to any other exclusive club in their town and demand to be allowed in to enjoy the ammenites simply on the basis of being a good person

The simple fact is , it is not true. It is not from God Himself. It is from those who thought whatever they thought God thought. Throw it out. If you want to know what God said, see Gita. Lord Krishna Himself appears in Flesh, in His Omnipotent Form and teaches. That is true. Bible is false Q.E.D

The question is, by whose standard are you "good"
